Video Poker Game Rules

HISTORY
Introduced in the 1970's, Video Poker is an increasingly popular form of gambling. Played fast while involving a combination of skill and luck, video poker attracts players by providing hours of stimulating entertainment.

The Video Poker games at SOS Casino are based on five-card draw poker. In five-card draw, players are originally dealt five cards and can throw away any of them to try to improve their hand. New cards are dealt to replace the discarded ones, and the result is the final hand.

TYPES OF MACHINES
VIDEO POKER at SOS Casino is like crossing Poker with a slot machine and throwing in a few wild cards. It's fast, almost like playing Poker, with a huge range of options. The player can choose either single play where one hand is dealt at a time, or the more challenging, triple play where three hands are dealt at once. The Video Poker games consist of the following: Joker Poker, Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Crazy 8's, Double Double Bonus, Deuces and Joker, and Bonus Deluxe. In single play there is also Lucky 7's.

Each game has its own personality and rewards a particular kind of play. Also, the machines accept anything from $1 through $5 "coins", with the payoffs improving at the high end of the scale. Video Poker is fast, fun and rewarding.

Some of our games will also offer the opportunity to DOUBLE UP on winnings. Once the player has a winning hand, the screen will switch and the player may choose RED or BLACK. This is to guess the color of a random card. If the color is guessed correctly, the winnings are DOUBLED. If guessed incorrectly everything won on that hand is lost. If the player does not wish to take the bet, he just clicks on "NEXT HAND" and goes back to the regular game. The player may DOUBLE UP as many times as he wishes, as long as he keeps winning. If he chooses incorrectly at any time, he will lose ALL winnings on that hand. He may pull out of the DOUBLE UP by clicking on "NEXT HAND" at any time.

Players should keep in mind that each game has it's own strategy:

GAME PLAY
To start, choose the game and the value of coin. Then choose how many coins and place a bet. Once the bet is made push the "DEAL/DRAW" button. As five cards are dealt, decide which cards to keep by pushing the hold button associated with that card. You can either click the “HOLD” button or just click on the card itself.

After making selections, double check to ensure that every card “held” has the word "HELD" in front of and below it. Then press the "DEAL/DRAW" button and every card chosen to discard (not hold) will be replaced with another card from the deck.

Instead of beating an opponent's hand, the player wins when holding any of the five-card combinations listed in the hierarchy of winning hands. Each type of winning hand is paid according to the payout schedule on the face of the machine.

The minimum ranking hand that is required to win is different for every game. Jacks or Better was the original Video poker game, but now there are many more...

OBJECTIVE
As with most forms of Poker, the player aims to get the best hand possible. The payoffs are marked on the face of the Video Poker machine so it's a fast lesson in what the hand ranks are. All Video Poker variations rank hands the same, though some variations may add an extra rank or two.

BETTING
Betting is pretty straightforward in Video Poker. Each machine is different, remember the denomination of the chosen machine, the maximum number of coins allowed can be determined by using the "BET ONE" or "BET MAX" buttons.

PAYOUT
The first thing to note is that the game graphic interface shows the payout for each betting level. Also key importance is the fact that the payout ratios vary from game to game. Where Jacks or Better may pay 25:1 for Four Of A Kind, and Joker Poker only pays 20:1. The payout tables for each individual game highlight the winning hands and the amounts paid. Remember the hierarchy of winning hands varies from game to game.

STRATEGY
While there are many different strategies involved with each machine, there are a few points that should be followed for all:

Don't hold four cards of an inside straight

An inside straight is one where the potential straight can be completed only one way. An outside straight is one that can be completed in two ways (either ends of the straight) and so is twice as likely to be successful. The only exception to this rule is an Ace-high straight.Don't hold three cards of a straight except for K-Q-J Don't hold three cards of a flush

Do not hold three cards of the same suit unless it is also a potential straight flush.

Don't hold a kicker with any pair or with three of a kind

A kicker is a single high card (J, Q, K, A) that has the potential to turn into a winning pair. The pair or three of a kind should always be played and the kicker discarded.

PROGRESSIVE JACKPOTS
Progressive Jackpots are available on the games shown. Normally Jackpots are available for Single line AND three line video poker games separately. A contribution is taken from each wager and added to the jackpot. The HIGHEST RANKING HAND (according to the pay tables) will win the Jackpot. 100% of the Jackpot is paid for a maximum bet of 5 coins and 1/5th of the Jackpot is paid for 1 coin wagered. Other numbers of coins wagered will pay pro rata. Jackpots are available on selected games, check for availability.
